When Missing Loved Ones Becomes a Lifestyle
I grew upward missing people. My father was a company human — a corporate nomad — and so when it came time to motility again, nosotros packed upwards and went where the career opportunities led him.
The just identify he ever declined to motility was Utah. That's because no i in their correct mind agrees to move to Utah. (Hey, no offense.)
Growing upward, I missed friends, neighbors, and classmates across vi states. Relationships were temporary. Living hundreds of miles from relatives, we visited them once or twice a year. For vii years, my dad worked 2nd shift so he could climb that corporate ladder; often I missed him, likewise.
When I attended higher, naturally it was out-of-state. Then, I landed a corporate job much like his and connected the nomadic lifestyle of corporate relocations and missing people.
Once I became a parent, yet, I sought to ensure that my ain daughter didn't grow up missing people she loved. I wanted to requite her the gift of existence "from" somewhere. I wanted to give her the gift of not continually feeling loss or separation from all that was familiar.
We at present live a rock's throw from my parents and other family. Corporate nomads somewhen detect their oasis, and information technology's rarely at the top of the organizational ladder.

Where is your oasis?

I met my soulmate while living in Europe as a teenager. Nosotros'd spend ours days dreaming about a future together. Just, her family abruptly left the state and disappeared. The twenty-four hours I watched her lath the plane crying is among the worst days of my life.
We knew we'd probably never run into each other again and promised to ever remember, and find each other in the side by side life.
In the years since, I've searched, merely never found any trace of her.
And, while my life went on, I've never forgotten her.
The song that always makes me cease and think about her and what could accept been is "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen. Similar in the vocal, we but weren't fated to be together. But, nosotros had our i sweetness moment - our forever.

Faded Beloved
As I look at the letters that you wrote to me
it's you that I am thinking of
Every bit I read the lines that to me were so sweetness
I recollect our faded love
I miss you darling more and more than every day
as heaven would miss the stars above
With every heartbeat I still remember of you
and remember our faded love
I think of the past and all the pleasures nosotros've had
as I watch the mating of the pigeon
It was in the springtime that you lot said adieu
I recollect our faded dear
I miss you darling...
